No sound

Hello, I wish someone could tell me why of all the most common sound cards in the world that every distro thus far has found why my creative ensoniq is not working. I tried to modprobe it with these results:
linux:/home/gotchya2002 # modprobe es1370
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.11.4-20a-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory
It comes up in lspci, in yast, but notta sound. Ran alsaconf and it did not even find it. Sorry if I sound like a smart*ss but every distro I have ever used has found my sound with this card out the box. I am using 9.3 pro 64 version. Did a net install.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I just loaded the 9.3 64 bit version and the sound was in the off position.

Really I would have thought it would make it easier to have the volume set to a half and the switch in the on position.

It's little thing that are like this that drive you mad with Suse installation.

You have to click on the taskbar on the loudspeaker ikon, click the green led to the on and move the slider to half volume.

Can you post the following:

$>ls -l /lib/modules

$>uname -a

$> ls -l /lib/modules/`uname -r`/

You are missing

Quote:
linux:/home/gotchya2002 # modprobe es1370
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.11.4-20a-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory
Are you trying the load es1370 as "user" or root?

modules.dep which *must* be available. Try to install all kernel related files from Yast2 and check:

$> ls -l /lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.dep
