No graphics after installation!
I've just installed OpenSUSE 10.3 without any problems. I can start the OS in failsafe mode (runlevel 3) but the screen turns black when trying to boot to runevel 5.
I ran a Fedora-based dist. on the same computer before and had the same problem. I then tried to install the NVIDIA driver and was told that GCC wasn't installed: Code:
"Unable to find the development tool 'cc' in your path; please make sure that you have the package gcc installed. If gcc is installed on your So, why can't I install the packages using Yast in text mode? How do I install the package 'kernel-source'? Are there any other ways to get the NVIDIA driver configured? (I'm using a new Lenovo ThinkPad 61p with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M graphics card) Thanks, Johan |
Try turning off the acpi (acpi=off) in your grub menu or pass it as a commandline switch when booting and see if that helps.

No graphics after installation
Suse always supply a dummy driver with works on most Nvidia graphic cart
It did not support the 3d accelator But xwindows runs well My both computers the old and the new one has and new and old version Off Gforce 3 of nvidiA No problem at all Only to enabled 3d acelator I have to down load the right driver from nvidia So the cart is my opinion not the problem Even if I start in the failsafe mode Startx do start up xwindows Of course if a shut xwindows down without solving the problems I got a lot of error messages Maybe if I new more of what the problem really is I can help you beter good luck |
Guess I've solved it for now - reinstalled the whole thing with all the necessery packages, and was then able to run the driver.
Executed nvidia-xconfig which writes a new X config to /etc/X11/xorg.conf Rebooted and got the graphics. |
