No active update repository available
 

Hi there --

I just completed updating 10.2 to 11.1, and I am going through the motions of running an on-line update for the operating system. I started yast2, and I clicked on Online Update. The error message that I am seeing is the following:

I checked the configured software repositories for the system, and here is what is listed:

The above sites are all set to a priority of 99 (default), and all have enabled and autorefresh configured for them.

Is there anything else that should be configured, or are all packages and their affiliated files truly up-to-date?

Yes. You have to add an update repository. On my system I have http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.1/ with priority 20. It was enabled during installation. Maybe you skipped the network connection test during installation, so that the system did not try to query the update repository.

Also note that the debug and source repository are not enabled by default. You can keep them disabled, unless you really need them.

Thanks for your reply. I went through the motions of adding the update repository to the list, and removed the four existing ones so currently the only thing in the list is the update repository.

Besides the update URL, are there any other sitesthat should be on the list? Thanks.

Ehm... well... I did not state you had to remove the other repositories, just add the missing one. Indeed the oss and the non-oss repositories are necessary. For your convenience, here is a list of the repositories enabled on my system:
Please note, the first three are essential in order to install opensuse packages and keep them up-to-date. Also note that they don't necessarily point to the official opensuse server, but they are automatically redirected to a mirror in your vicinity.

Regarding the Packman repository, it is a well known opensuse additional repository with a lot of additional software, especially to give full multimedia capabilities. You can safely add this repository, and choose a mirror different than mine, depending on where you are located.

The libdvdcss is a repository which provides the libdvdcss library to enable the access to DVD (you can play commercial DVDs on your computer, through mplayer or vlc for example) despite their encryption.

Finally, I enabled the NVIDIA repository since I chosed to install the proprietary drivers for my NVIDIA card and I want to keep them up-to-date.

In summary - the first three repositories are necessary. The Packman repository is strongly suggested. The others depend on your choice and your needs.
