To switch consoles, use these key combinations:
ctrl-alt-F1 - console 1
crtl-alt-F2 - console 2
crtl-alt-F7 - X, desktop
As far as the mouse issue is concerned, Suse should have no problem detecting the Microsoft Optical Mouse, but in your case it appears that it is.
Try this:
1) use ctrl-alt-F1 to go to console 1
2) log in as root
3) run 'init 3', this will shutdown X so that we can safely check the configurations
4) run 'SaX2', this is the Suse configuration utility for X. Check the mouse configuration options.
5) assuming that works and it is able to find your mouse, once you exit SaX2, type 'init 5' to restart X
If that does not work, you can try this:
1) reboot your computer. Do not just turn off you computer!
1a) hit ctrl-alt-F1
1b) log in as root
1c) type 'reboot' and hit enter, if that does not work, try 'shutdown -r now'
2) go into your bios and enable USB Mouse emulation or Legacy USB Mouse or something similar.
This will allow your bios simulate that a USB mouse is actually PS/2 until the operating system loads the correct drivers. After that, run SaX2 again using the instructions above.
Hope this helps
