The opensuse distribution is very brain damaged when it comes to media due to copyright and software patent issues. Further, the media corporate police have been on the prowl and have caused the governments in a number of new countries to create new laws to further serve their special interests. One of those countries is Germany, which is where opensuse is developed.

My understanding is these new laws actively seek to create liability for anyone who actively assists anyone else in getting around these copyright and software patent issues but if someone finds a way around these copyright and software patent issues on their own and keeps that to their own personal use for copyrighted media they legally own, then that person has no liability due to fair use under copyright law. In general, the software packages that will repair the opensuse media brain damage are out there but you would need to find and install them on your own.

You need to subscribe to the packman repo (and install the necessary packages) to gain the necessary (patent-encumbered) multimedia support....

The other repositories

Follow the instructions :-)

Do need include these:

sudo zypper refresh packman

sudo zypper dup --from packman

During the dup you likely will see Problem messages example below with highlighted Solution and preferred Choice :

Problem: problem with installed package libavutil55-3.4.2-lp150.2.1.x86_64
Solution 1: install libavutil55-3.4.2-lp150.3.1.x86_64 (with vendor change)
openSUSE -->
Solution 2: keep obsolete libavutil55-3.4.2-lp150.2.1.x86_64

Choose from above solutions by number or skip, retry or cancel [1/2/s/r/c] (c): 1

Then I had 25 of them, yet only took a few minutes.

Check whether best to do log-out then log-in, or re-boot, with zypper ps
