New installation cd's wont boot
 

Having just received 5 installation cd's from cheaplinux and the system completely fails to recognize cd 1 and cd2 as boot disks and just boots into windows.I am using a AMD -64 and trying to install Suse 10.0.03 64bit operating system.
I suspect the cd's might not be bootable.This is my first switch from Mandrake and any help will be appreciated.

Do other bootable CD's work? Did you set your CD drive to #1 in the bootorder? Usually, CD1 is bootable.

Thanks abisko00 I have tried other cd,s and they dont boot.I have changed my bios settings to boot from cdrom first but it still boots from the hard disk into Windows.I have also acquired a DVD boot disk of Suse but just get the same problem.

Perhaps Smart Boot Manager would work for you:

I haven't tried it, but it looks neat if it works. I will download it tonight and pop it onto a floppy. Good tool to have around.

If you have a live Windoze machine, you could try creating boot diskettes from the CD's and boot from floppy disk. The floppy images are on CD1, somewhere... or download them on-line.
I have done it this way, but it's been a long time :-(

My understanding is that only CD1 or the DVD is a bootable image. I would simply go to Opensuse.org and download CD1 ISO and burn it yourself. At least you know that it should work that way, and if it doesnt, its your machine.

Thanks for all the replies.I used OSL 2000 boot loader which can be downloaded from their site.Once Linux
is installed from the dvd grub over writes osl 2000.
