new 64 bit computer - can i install 32 bit suse 9.3

i just bought a dell 9100 and want to install linux along with current xp - if i install the dvd - it hangs up at "checking hardware" or something like that. If i put the cd-rom #1 in, it says "cool computer, but you are installing 32-bit software on a 64 bit computer. will i have any problems if i do this? also is there anything i need to turn off in windows xp to allow access to the root of tuhe hard drive?

Yes. Installing 32 bit operating systems on 64 bit hardware is fine.
Have you set the bios to boot from the cdrom first?
The new Dell may have some proprietary hardware linux does not like.

I'm having the same problem.
I'm also have a brand new DELL Dimension 9100 system with a pentium 840D (dual core)
But I have a SATA disk and the suse installer can't see it. Has this anything to do with Intel's 945P chipset?
