Question Network Installation of Open Suse 10

Hi All,

I downloaded the boot.iso (downloading 5 iso's is just way too much) and I'm trying to perform a network installation but I'm prompted for the IP address of the FTP server and I just can't come up with one.

Can anyone recommend where I might find an ip address of a mirror?

Thanks in advance

Rein

well I figured it out but I thought it would be responsible for me to post the mirror I used to continue with network installation.

As I live in Canada, I chose the only mirror on the continent:

ftp://mirror.colorado.edu (128.138.196.45)

The directory is:

/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-stable/inst-source/

I'm installing now and will report back my results.

Thumbs down

It hangs after "Evaluating packages" during the Installation Summary. I'm using VMWare and was expecting no problems. My guess is that a package (or packages) or unavailable over the network which is not being gracefully handled by the installer.

Anyone else experience this or have suggestions?

Thanks,

Rein

when you choose the ftp mirror , choose the " complete " one .the documentation will tell.
and it is not necessary to choose a mirror in your region , you can choose one that is in another region but close to you.

regards

has anyone done this through a Proxy? I'm trying to do it at uni, and I think that's causing the problem.

Has anyone got a list of ftp mirrors as well?

instead of downloading all 5 CD ISO's try the one DVD ISO. Its the same ammount of data but is much easier to keep up with once you burn it. Novell packs so many packages into it that it pays to have it handy (at least it did for me). Also when you install it you can go away and let it do its stuff. If you have it on 5 CD's you have to be there to keep switching them.

To anyone still reading this thread:

There is a fairly comprehensive list of mirrors at:
http://www.novell.com/products/susel...t_mirrors.html

There doesn't seem to be one for us Canucks... although Vancouver is further from my home than San Francisco, so not having "one" for Canada doesn't actually mean a lot. I try and use the ones in the US North Central or North East. I've had good data rates using some in the south east, too.

And yes, I've done an FTP install through a proxy and it worked OK for me.
