Network Installation Help Request (FTP or HTTP)
 

I need some assistance in getting SuSE 9.3 x86_64 installed on my laptop. I have searched the WIKI, Forums and Tutorials but cannot seem to locate a thread or resource that applies. For some background, I have a Compaq Presario V2000 with 512MB RAM, 80GB Hard Disk and AMD Turion64 processor. It has a DVD drive that will read dual-layer ROMs.

I have the SuSE 10 DVD but it will not boot ... period. It does not matter if disable ACPI & APCI even when running safe. OK, I was able to get it installed in safe mode with boot options vga=771 noacpi nolapic, but could only boot the system off an older distro CD, using the boot installed system option.

Now to the question: I would like to update my 9.3 install (successful) to the 9.3 x86_64 using FTP or HTTP. I have downloaded and burned the network install ISO, boots fine, DHCPs fine. However, when I try to actually install I am either timed out or told the folder does not exist. I want to make sure I have the correct parameters.

I have tried two USA mirrors that are close to me, they are:
199.117.114.10 (aka) mirror.storagetek.com
159.98.64.80 (aka) suse.cs.utah.edu

I specify directory /pub/systems/suse/x86_64/9.3 for storagetek
and /suse/x86_64/9.3/ fir Utah School of computing

Both mirrors have been highly reliable for updates including the i386 9.3 system I currently have installed.

StorageTEK, just plain pukes FTP or HTTP
Utah responds, but will not acknowledge the directory exists which it does

So I am thinking I have a simple path issue or something, but I wanted to run it by the forum here so I could see if I missed something in frustration.

I see that your topic is ftp/http but you dont make mention of it. When you try the network install, do you use FTP or HTTP?

Also have you tried messing w/ the slashes on either end? I've noticed that an extra slash on one of the sides causes some problems sometimes.
perhaps instead of:
/suse/x86_64/9.3/
use:
suse/x86_64/9.3/

I have tried both FTP and HTTP for both mirrors. I'll try the '/' and see if that helps. I did download (via FTP, lol) the whole x86_64 folder last night. I am going to try the same ISO but use a local path. the install actually puts the leading '/' in for you too, so I did not remove it.

EDIT: OK, I have tried again, local, http & ftp from suse.cs.utah.edu (155.98.64.80)
FTP, plain fails, this is OK if I may use another method. Both local and http start the install now, however, they both error in the software section of YaST stating 'No source found at "path" Error: No proposal' The path I specified was all of the following, for http:
/suse/x86_64/9.3/
/suse/x86_64/9.3
suse/x86_64/9.3/
suse/x86_64/9.3

Thinking maybe I should just order a DVD from PCtech101.com, but like most ... I really wanted to get this up an running this weekend. :(

Glad to see no one here has gotten this working ... makes me feel better about banging my head against the wall :)
