Which flavor of SuSE?? 64 or 32-bit?? 9.2, 10.0 or ?? Is the HDD S-ATA?? Are you downloading the DVD, CD or internet version?? Are you checking md5sum of your downloads??
Too much info is always better than not enough :) |
ok first suse 10.0 dvd 32-bit but i do have 64bit processor..but i want openoffice..my hd is sata..cheacking md5sum..duno how to do that..uggh i hope u can help..lol im really gettin agervated..using grub aswell
|
The 64 Bit version works much faster.
You can download md5sum.exe here: http://www.etree.org/md5com.html Using: read the instructions. Openoffice is included in the Suse Distro. The installation of Grub is automatically done by the Suse installer. After the installation, you can dualboot Win and Linux. |
yea but this dosnt sole my problem..i cant get past the install park..it has everything ina nice list from time zone to booting to software..software is my prob and under it is the error
no source found at 'CD;///devices=/dev/hda,/dev/hdd no proposal this is where im stuck |
well i have no idea HOW to do md5sum so..ugh lets just assume its fine..what would be my next step
|
Have you downloaded the Eval or the Opensuse version of Suse?
Try to download the Eval version, I had also no luck installing the Opensuse version. |
yes i downloaded the dvd iso of the eval..
|
need me to explain anythin else?
|
I don't know if this will help but you seem desperate, give it a try
http://www.suseforums.net/lofiversio...hp/t21460.html My non-technical (and possibly wrong) understanding is the install process reaches a stage where Suse 'itself' must find the drives. If it can't you get an error. I think it occurs mostly with SIS chipsets. |
Just a few words on SATA, there's type I and II(fast and faster). Some motherboards don't support type II and your SATA drive needs to be strapped for type I if it doesn't.
|
ok well..didnt really work but at least im kinda figuring stuff out..ok here is what i got so far
1. i can get to the instalation summery, and everything is fine except for the error no source found at 'CD;///devices=/dev/hda,/dev/hdd 2.i found this error under the software tab... 3. i go farther into the software tab under the expert settings and there is nothing there..it says pacages and there are no pacages..i think this is my problem..there is no software listed. |
Suse 10.0 originally had really bad SATA support. If you have tried the CDs and the DVD, it might be that your hardware is not compatible. Is your DVD and your HDD SATA?
|
Maxtors are SATA? Sorry,I didn't know. My hardware knowledge is pretty limited.
Edit:Apparently I also don't read very well. That generic-ide thing in the link wouldn't be very useful. |
