Unhappy Need WAY better multimedia in SuSE 10

Just installed SuSE 10 a few days ago and I'm really disappointed with the multimedia support. Been looking for some codecs to play my mpeg, wmv, mov, and divx files but without much luck. I installed Packman's win32 codecs but it hasn't done anything for Xine.

I installed Mplayer previously on my SuSE 9.3 and a ton of codecs and it played media but messed up my system. All I want are some safe rpms of codecs or plugins that will let me play all of my videos with the stock SuSE 10 Xine. (I wish they'd come out with more "Multimedia Option" packs.) Any answers?

Hi, i had some problems like you when i've installed OpenSuse 10.0 GM

Well, Suse officialy does not have support to copyrighted formats (flash, mp3, divx, real video, ...)

The solution i did:

- Remove Xinelib using yast (it will say that i need to remove amarok and keffeine too, i just ignored)
- Download the xine rpm on this site: (tha packages are on the bottom of the page)
- Download: libxine and libdvdcss (to view dvd from all regions)
- Install the downloaded RPMS (after installing you solved the dependency problem of kafeine and amarok)
- Be Happy!

I tried your link but it kept timing out. But I did find this AWESOME article that actually worked and took 10 minutes to do! Now all of my stuff works and my system isn't broken! Thank you jam report!

The Jem Report article was enlightening. I especially liked learning how to establish a link to the "master" files for additions. That will save a lot of trouble carrying the CDs around :-)
