Need help with Suse 9.1 Live cd and internet connection
Hi,
Recently, at a seminar, we each got a copy of Suse 9.1 Live cd. It runs nice, except I can't connect to the net. Can anyone guide me through the steps to troubleshoot this on linux? My pc connects directly to a cable modem via a dlink network card.
I run 9.1 Pro so there might be some differences in what you have running. During the set-up process did you have the chance to configure devices? Or have you checked in YaST that your machine is recognizing your card?
You may want to go to YaST and configure what you have. I know this isn't too much to go on, but at least it is a direction to follow.
SuSE offers a free 9.1 Personnal download. If you have the mind set to tinker you may want to try this. I once did a Knoppix "Live" distro and could not figure anything out.
I've found SuSE to be the best distro that I've run across and have taken everthing from MS that I needed, but it will take some time to get the hang of things.

Hi Adler,
I have almost become bald attempting to connect to streamyx broadband in Malaysia. I've got SuSe 9.1 Personal. I have no problem connecting a PC and a notebook to streamyx through Pro-link Hurricane 9000 under Windows. I have copied down all the settings in Windows, and set confgure them in YaST. Any advice or instruction I may find?
Selamat Datang -- I lived 2x in your area. Once in KL and another time in PJ.
In YaST is your harware recognized? If it is, have you configured it? Also, you'll have to check with the SuSE site to see if your harware is supported. It may or may not be. If it isn't you'll need to do a few Googles to come up with someone that has configured your exact harware. You can aslo "search" this Forum. as well as. others.
I know this isn't much to go on. You should be able to connect immediately to an Ethernet connection. Can you access an Ethernet? This way you can check that at least one part of your connectivity issue is working.
When I first installed the CD it said it could not connect to the SUSE Help Site. But I can still browse the web . I cannot send email But I can receive email thru my Shaw.ca address.
I run Win XP with SP2.. I suspect the Firewall may be the problem .
