Need help connecting to repositories

After my first install of openSuSE, I was easily able to go into YaST and add functioning installation sources (URL can be reached). After messing around with SuSE in general, I became more serious about it and decided to do a fresh install--to start from the ground up again.

Anyways, everytime I try to add an online installation source, it gives me the following error: ERROR(InstSrc:E_no_instsrc_on_media).

The online sources I've tried were:
http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirro...S/inst-source/
ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirror...man/suse/10.0/

I currently use the linux machine as an ftp server, which I can easily connect to from within the network and the outside world...so I'm sure the box can communicate with the internet .

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Also, let's say I get passed this problem...will I be able to install some programs from the 10.1 installation source on a suse 10.0 machine? (I'd like to follow this guide: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_suse_10.1 without starting ALL over)

I also tried yast > software > online update and it tells me that it can't acquire the list of servers (I went on my windows machine and typed in the URL it tried connecting to, it was some .cgi file and I was able to see the list of server URLs) and says that the problem may be with the network connection. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem?

Details of error:

Cannot fetch remote server list

I have exactly the same problem as crog in that Yast can't update anything online. I'm surfing the net without any problem, but yast cant find remote servers or any other source i try. If i do try to update anything, yast hangs for about 10 mins trying to find a server and then gives me an error message about being unable to connect to mirror site, or remote server or whatever.

Why can't yast connect to online sources??

Here's an update: I just did a fresh install of SuSE 10.1. At first I still wasn't able to connect, so I decided to practically follow the HowTo to the letter.

I was finally able to connect. The only changes I made was that I put in the 3 name servers that were mentioned in the HowTo guide: 145.253.2.75, 193.174.32.18, and 194.25.0.60 (YaST > Network Services > DNS and Hostname)

That's the only changes I've made (not sure if it was necessary or not), but the noob in me is glad it worked .

I still can't figure out how to get Yast to update anything. Yes I have searched the forum and read almost everything i can but non of the problems seem to be like mine. Basically, if i start up yast and click on the 'Online update' link then I get a new window and a small message that states "Getting a list of mirror servers..."

Then, nothing happens. Yast hangs here for several minutes and can't be stopped (how do you stop crashed programs in Suse?). Eventually it gives me a 'WARNING' message 'Cannot fetch remote server list. Only user-defined patch sources will be availiable'. 'Possible solution - check network connections'

If I click on the 'details' button it tells me:
URL: http://www.suse.de/cgi-bin/suseservers.cgi<br>couldn't connect to host

OK, so i need to check network connections, but which exactly? I'm on my laptop and it has a working wireless card and I'm browsing the internet on it whilst getting this message. What do I need to do???

Crog's note above is for 10.1 and i gather that that is very different.....

Some more info....

I used the wget command in a terminal to download something (I've never done this before) and the terminal message told me it was trying to connect via:

Resolving wireless2... 192.168.0.56
Connecting to wireless2|192.168.0.56|:80...

However, this isn't the setting that i use to access the internet! This seems to be where I'm going wrong! These sttings are the proxy server settings that I entered into yast > network services > proxy when trying to get into the wireless proxy server at work (which I never somehow managed!).

It looks like some part of my laptop Linux is using these settings, whilst my browsers use another setting. I really don't understand this. Help greatfully received.....
