my hp 3535 usb printer drives me crazy

Hi everydoby

I have a problem that drives me crazy. The following happens. I am running SUSE 9.2 on a hp nx9010 notebook (all work fine). To print I have attached an hp3535 deskjet printer that is set up via cups in yast2. Everything works fine once the printer is set up (with driver hp 3325) i can print out from office (even from wine apps).
Hovever as it is a notebook i take it oftenly to work. And this is where my problem starts. When i connect my printer again (to the wery same usb hole) and try to use the same printer (that i set up before disconnecting and connecting again my printer) does not work. I have to set it up again in yast2 to be able to use it and it lasts till printer gets disconnected from port, than it h as to be set up again. (to put it in an other way> first i set up my printer with the name hp3500, it worked till i had to take my notebook to work. When i got home and tried to print to hp3500 nothing happened. I had to use yast and make a new printer called hp3500_1 to be able to print out. Next disconnect from port -> next reinstall. etc.
Thus my question is how to make my suse recognize the same printer on the same port even after that it was disconnected.

I have never experienced this problem with paralel port printer.

thanks

Sounds like the distro is removing the /dev/usb/lp* when printer is removed. See if it disappears when unplugged or do what you do when you take it to work. Same procedure (unplug, turn off, turn on, unplug other devices, or what ever). Now when you bring it home and plug in the notebook see if /dev/usb/lp0 is there. If not try creating one with the following command ' mknod /dev/usb/lp0 c 180 0 ' and see if that works. NOTE: mknod command requires root access to run.

If this is the issue I think it might be posiable to fix that.

Hi thanks for the answer

I have just tried out and unplugged my printer (even after turning off my laptop) than I plugged it in again, than it just does not work. However /dev/usb/lp0 is there. Yast recognizes the printer without a problem anytime i plug it in, and i am also able to use it after install) but i have to get into yast
