MX 1000 mouse detected? in suse 10.0

I read here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ht=laser+mouse
that somebody had there laser mouse detected on a new install. Was that the logitech 1000 and the reason I ask is that I tried to configure it under yast and couldnt find that particular mouse. I have got it sort of working by manually editing the correct files in the past but it was kind of a pain in the ass especially restarting X all the time. If all the buttons are working correctly on your laser mouse perhaps you could check which profile you are using in Yast--->hardware--->mouse and let me know.

By the way I use a program called Synergy http://synergy2.sourceforge.net with a 2 monitor three system set up. The program seemlessly allows the use of one keyboard and mouse for two systems each with its own monitor. With two monitors on your desktop you can simply move the mouse pointer to the edge of your monitor and it will jump over to the next monitor and system. I simply Krdc to the 3rd system and keep it on its own desktop and use the pager when I need to work in the 3rd system.
Anywhooo I want to go back to using my linux box as the server in Synergy but this requires the correct configuration of the buttons ie I want that thumb button working for "back" on my browser.

I am using an MX1000 with SuSE 9.3 and the Firefox Back and Forward buttons are mapped to the two side buttons on the mouse, as you wish. Here is what I have done:

Firstly, in /etc/X11, you will find file xorg.conf. This is THE key X configuration file for this sort of thing. As root, open it in your favorite editor, and find the "Input Device" section for driver "mouse". In my SuSE 9.3 xorg.conf, this is right after the Input Device section for driver "keyboard". Make the following changes:

Option "Buttons" "7"
Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"

Save that off and now go to file /etc/profile.local. Again as root, open this with your favorite editor. Somewhere near the bottom, add the following:

xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 7 6 4 5"

Reboot, and try it out in Firefox. This works well for Firefox, with the front-most side button on the mouse acting as Back and the backmost one acting as Forward. You can reverse this by changing the xmodmap statement and reversing the 6 and the 7. Note that this DOESN'T work in Konqueror however.

Hope this helps!

Thats a great refresher but I thought maybe suse had expanded there mouse support and too for some reason this setup works well in my linux box but when I move the cursor over to the windows box it doesnt seem to convey the sam setup. To understand what I mean you would have to be familiar with the program synergy.
