MPLAYER not working, acces denied

My mplayer has for some to me unknown reason stopped working. Suse10, KDE, Firefox all latest updates. I open a moviesite (legal paid for), it starts buffering, and in the mplayer window it says

mplayer execv: Access denied.

I searched for the mplayer files, and changed permissions to the windows default: everybody full access, but I still get the same error.

about:plugins lists mplayer

yast confirms that it is installed, and I have updated the installation, even done the windows trick - reboot, but no videos will play.

If I slip in a DVD, mplayer starts, but exits with the error :"Search failed"

what's wrong ?

Might be a corrupt .mplayer in your home directory. rename to say .mplayer2 and try again playing just a simply avi or mov locally on machine. Post errors

Here's somemore information: I have both FireFox and epiphany runnig on a SuSE 10.0 install that has all the patches applied. mplayer-plugin works on the epiphany browser, and did work on FireFox when it was originally installed. It stopped working on Firefox after the upgrade to v1.5.0.7.. same mplayer-plugin in both cases, and the same error message: Error: mplayer execv: Permission denied. This only happens to me on streaming video (news clips). Everything else associated with mplayer works fine.
The security update applied to Firefox has to be the culprit, IMHO.
