thanks for yourquick reply,, however when i go to Yast>network devices,, i inevetably end up in a screen where it runs thru the configuration and goes thru a series of checks,, it gets to the next to the last item called "set up smpppd" and stops at 66% and locks up. this happens after two or three attempts at configuring my modem.. i have uninstalled the old modem and recreated a new one,,and just tried to change the settings in yast> network devices,,and get the same results. i think the last item on the list is "connect with " sorry i cannot remember the name of the dialer.
my real problem is that i am very new at linux and suffering thru how to install a software modem. My modem is an intel 536ep, and suse9.1 recognizes it, but doesn't supply the driver.. i found the driver on the intel site, and am going thru a major learning on how to install the driver..i have searched the forums and know it can be done,, the frustrating part is after three or so failures, i end up as above and must completely reinstall suse9.1, so hope someone can solve the above problem for me..
thanks in advance
