Memory Usage

I am complete out of ideas on how to slim down my suse install. so far i uninstalled all programs that i didn't need, disable start-up service that i didn't need but still right after boot-up with nothing visiable i can see running i pressed ctrl+esc and shows that over 507,608kb of ram are used and 8,998 are free.

thats alot. i really enjoy the ease of use of suse but its just not running as fast any ideas???
