Lost panel icon for wifi

I've been looking at Opensuse in Virtualbox for a year or so. A month ago I decided to use Leap 42 on my laptop, Asus K53E, a very Linux compatible laptop. All great until I was trying to get net work manager to remember the wifi WPA codes. After clicking on the little antenna with radio waves icon, I touched the square box and the icon disappeared from the panel. Now I have no way to access Wifi. How do I get the icon back? (Or any way to access wifi). I've been googling for 3 hours - apparently no one has ever done this before. I plugged in the cable, and internet works, but I need wifi in most locations. Thank you for any help. Never mind. I was playing around with the panel applet, and after considerable puttering, it reappeared.
