Sorry for the delay getting back here. This weekend has been hectic.
My previous advice was based on the idea that the problem was restricted to sound playing cd's. Please read this;
http://www-uxsup.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/d....hardware.html
Using the information in that link take a look at the sound card configuration and see if it agrees with your hardware. Move all the sliders to the right in the test sound window. If the test sound refuses to play try removing the sound card and configuring it again. I recommend using the automatic detection if possible.
The file you asked about earlier (kscdrc) is a hidden file in my home directory. Disregard this for now.
Your the first person to comment on my user name. Winnipeg in english=muddywaters
Bye for now

It might just be a good idea (since KDcD apeears to be running and playing something you cannot hear), that you go to Control Center > Sound & Multimedia > Sound, and Check if "Enable Soundsystem" has been checked. By default it is off. Another indication for this being switched off is that when KDE comes up you do not hear a sound, which you should.
Many users of SuSE/KDE have been foxed by this odd default setting.

Good call. I'd forgotten about that

Question Looking for SuSE 9.3 software for traditional music CD files, i.e., *.cda

Good evening, Muddywaters, and other contributors,
My openSuSE 9.3 has never been fully functional as some of my previous threads have indicated. YaST, for instance, can not find the DVD/CD recorder file, which has never been present in the Media sub-directory where at least a duplicate file copy should reside; the Sony hardware file resides, as far as I can tell, only in the Dev sub-directory. I would say that the OS is about 85% correctly installed. Since I was on the verge of getting an audio cable installed between the recorder and the Primary C Drive, I just decided to start over!

I deleted all the F drive partitions, including Ext 2 with SuSE 9.3, and reformatted the drive back to NTFS. I will probably install SUSE 10.0 from a DVD next time, since it was provided in the rear of the new text: "SUSE LINUX 10 Unleashed."

Hoping for a better installation next time.
Thanks for the help; I've learned a lot about Linux that I never knew before. Maybe this is what a "first time" installation often turns out to be: Just a good beginning.

TTFN,
langbein
