Thumbs down Linux Sucks !!!!!!!!!!!! Windoze Rules

I am a totally newbie to linux. Haven't got a clue. Well I started an interest in linux so kept on looking for different distros. In one article I came across a great review of suse linux 9.3 pro. They said excellent for newbies. Still hesitant I came across some forums suggesting trying a live CD first. I found one after I payed $20 for it. Iam from south Africa - still a bit expensive for a so called free "O/S". But never mind. I was worried about hardware problems. They said but No it is the most up to date version yet. JUST POP THE DVD IN AND PRESTO IT WILL WORK U CAN EXPERIENCE LINUX WITHOUT INSTALLING IT.

GUESS WHAT! It booted fine - after that nothing. Just little box bouncing across my black screen. That was it!!

First impressions last. Linux sucks. The freaking live CD did not even work. Then try now to convince me your precious linux operating systems are better than windoze. I will laugh out so loud I'll think you are really silly.

BAD very bad publicity for your loving linux for a newbie.

I rather pay a little more for Microsoft products and know if I install it, with no hassles. Bad security issues or not. For a newbie to computers. Go for Microsoft. Linux will just give you headaches. I rather re-install windoze a 1000 times a day.

WINDOZE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See that question mark on his belly - it is very questionable.

So you signed up just to rant. Anyway you didn't need to pay for Suse or any other Linux distro, there are many places where you can get them for free. If I were you I would have asked politely why the Live CD didn't work on your system and I am sure you would have got a lot of people willing to help you out. If Suse didn't work on your system for whatever reason it does not mean that all Linux distributions will fail to work on your hardware. It seems like you have a negative attitude towards Linux though you have no experience using it, so maybe windows is better for you.

If people gave up the first time they ran into a Windows problem, who'd still be using Windows?

Any rational person would realize that this is a fluke (badly burned disk or something) because we didn't all get that blank screen. In fact, I've never gotten that blank screen.

I'd also like to know where this person "found" a live SuSE for $20. I went to SuSE's website, and they don't sell directly to South Africa. They have a link to South African resellers, but they're all selling hardware. I didn't see any live CDs there.

Isn't it possibly that this is just a badly burned disk?

Or just a troll who's making it up anyway...

I'm torn between the two options.

$20...wow. This does not sound like a legitimate source. Maybe all the disk does is that little bouncy box. Some sort of very cruel joke or something.

Let me please enlighten you poor souls that do not believe. Please click on the following link http://www.orderweb.co.za/linuxcds/PLD.htm. Scroll down and you will notice Suse 9.3 live DVD with R 110.00(this is south african currency) which equals to about $ 20.00 give or take. Here in South africa nothing is for Free.

So, Linux sucks eh? Let's view the evidence:
"Still hesitant I came across some forums suggesting trying a live CD first. I found one after I payed $20 for it." - most of us just fire up an internet connection and download it

"GUESS WHAT! It booted fine - after that nothing. Just little box bouncing across my black screen." - most of us would, again fire up an internet connection. Except we would then use www.google.com/linux or the LQ serach function or we'd go to Novell's site and check for an answer to our problem.

"Then try now to convince me your precious linux operating systems are better than windoze." - No. It's not my role in life. If you wish to use Linux, then more power to you. If you wish to use Windows, that's fine.

"I rather pay a little more for Microsoft products and know if I install it, with no hassles. Bad security issues or not. For a newbie to computers. Go for Microsoft. <snip> I rather re-install windoze a 1000 times a day." - you obviously have a heck of a lot of time on your hands. Me, I have a job, a family and a life. I'd rather spend a couple of hours installing and configuring and then not reinstall. Different strokes I guess. And you balk at paying $20 but don't mind paying a few hundred dollars for Windows? Wow. Just .... wow.

Anyway, glad you signed up, welcome to LQ and all that. But signing up to post this, and post it in the wrong forum, well I call troll. There's a bridge with your name on it out there somewhere.

Oh, and this thread is closed.
