libGL error

Greetings, I've got SuSE 9.3 and I've installed ATI's driver (the latest from about a month ago). Problem is at some point (don't know when) I'm getting the following error when I try to run an opengl application:
libGL error: failed to open DRM: Operation not permitted
libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
This happens even for a small test application. Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
I've followed the procedure of re-installing the driver from the point of make modules, make install, depmod -a but didn't have any results.
