LCD monitors and 9.1???
Hi Folks:
I've just ordered a new PC that will come from Dell, with a 17" "Ultrasharp 1704FPT" digital LCD display. I intend to install SuSE 9.1 on this machine, as a dual Windows XP/SuSE machine (I have used SUSE 7.1 before, but 9.1 is new to me; But I have it onhand already). BUT, now I am gathering that SuSE does not have very good (if at all?) LCD display support .. can anyone verify or tell me otherwise if that is true?? thanks! |
I'm happy with how SuSE 9.2 dealt with my 17" LCD.

There are many choices for LCD and TFT screens. There is also a way to set X-Y values for screen size. The setup is in SAX2 and YaST.

chantrelle,
I've not heard of many -- if any -- LCD problems with SuSE. |
My LCD works just fine with Suse.

No problems with lcd on 9.1, but you do have to use Yast to shift the screen a little.
Mandrake has no problems with this, but SuSE does seem to need adjustment. However 9.1 will not work with windoze so don't waste your time unless you want to go into all the suggested fixes for this ridiculous release bug. I hope someone will reassure me about 9.2 fixing this problem? |
9.1 And my Hercules ProphetVIEW 910 are living nappily together

SAX2 is good for adjusting the screen. Also, make sure you know your LCD screen's specs before installation. Additionally, most newer LCDs come with an auto-adjust feature that may be necessary, especially when doing resolution changing (1024x768>800x600 and back again, etc.). Look for your screen's listing under SAX2, or another which is just like it (many manufacturers slap different brand names on the same unit for different retail channels).
