Laptop touchpad scroll wheel does not work after upgrading to Suse 10.1

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2410 laptop. I have just done a fresh install of Suse 10.1 after using 9.2 for a couple of years. Everything works fine, except the scroll wheel on the laptop mouse has stopped working.
The scroll wheel of my external USB mouse works fine.

The mouse model in SAX is ALPS->Touchpad. I've tried Synaptic->Touchpad, but that made no difference.
The scroll wheel is enabled in SAX, although the "use scroll wheel" option is greyed out, and ticked. Weird.

Also, another related problem is that the touchpad sensitivity is too low. It takes ages to move the mouse pointer across the screen with the touchpad. I've tried changing the "Mouse resolution" in SAX, but a) there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust it separately for the two different mice, so increasing the sensitivty makes the USB mouse unusable and b) this doesn't seem to make any difference to the touchpad mouse anyway :-)

Any ideas as to how I can get the scroll wheel working?
Thanks.

solved

I fixed this by adding "psmouse.proto=imps" to the boot line (see my other post from when I upgraded to Suse 9.2)
