Konqueror Browser Problem - Suse 9.2 New Install

Installed and applied latest update as of this minute. When I bring up Konqueror browser, i get the welcome page and the task bar button at the bottom with "Conquer your desktop" text. Then I enter cnn.com or any other URL . I get another task bar button with " blinking timer-cursor and Konqueror " text. But i am not getting to the url in the original window or in a new window for the second task bar. i.e i have a second button without any browser window. When I click the blinking taskbar, it does not display the cnn or any url as there is no window for it to display. Still the first task bar shows the welcome page browser window. When I get out of the first welcome page url, the welcome page browser ends, but the the second task bar with blinking text still continues. I tried few times bringing up and down. Now I have 6 blinking taskbars and I can not close them!!!

Then I tried Firefox and Web Browser to do the same. Both of them work in the usual way without any problem.

Any idea to fix the problem?

Thanks

I just installed Suse 9.2 on 2 machines and had no problems with Konquer. I would suggest that you may want to try and uninstall Konquer with Yast and then try reinstalling it. Be sure to check the depencies and make sure that you have all the dependent components.

Removed konqueror package (kdeaddons3-konqueror) and reinstalled it. But still the problem continues. The monitor shows cpu is 100% with all the unkillable konqueor sessions running with only the task bars and no corresponding windows! To solve the problem, I am avoiding using konq browser and using firefox. Some times some application autoly brings up Konq browser and again puts me into problem!

Any suggestion is welcome.

Is it just URL's causing this issue in Konqueror? What happens if you browse files in it?

file:/

nathanv117 11-15-2004 01:37 PM

I am not even getting to any URL I specify! Whenever I enter new URL another task bar comes up but no window. If I close the first window where Konq's info comes, the window goes away, but the task bar stays on. CPU is always 100% with 1 or more Konq task bars showing blinking sand glass timer!

How do I disable Konq as a default browser?

Thanks for your attention to this crazy problem.

If you type file:/ in the konqueror address bar and hit enter, what happens?

nathanv117 11-18-2004 01:01 PM

file:/ works and displays root file system's directories. If I enter any internet urls's, I get the task button with hour-glass blinking eith Konq text and now windows.

nathanv117 11-29-2004 06:06 PM

No solution yet! Do I have to reinstall SUSE from the start to solve this konqueror problem?
Sombody save me from the long install and update!

Harryc 11-29-2004 07:14 PM

Start-> Control Center->KDE Components->Component Chooser->Web Browser. If it's set to Konqueror, change it to "open in an applicated based on the content" (or something like that. )

nathanv117 11-29-2004 07:53 PM

Harry, It worked to bringup another browser (firefox) instead of Konqueor.
Thanks

nathanv117 11-29-2004 08:35 PM

I just found out that the konqueror problem is only with root userid. Other userids are OK!
Now what to look for root's setup for konqueror problem?
