Knetwork Manager
Suse 10.2. My knetwork manager icon shows a red "x" as if it's not connected but it is. What's that all about? Just up and did it. How can I get it back to normal (w/o the red x)?

You can either control the network connection with the NetworkManager service or the traditional ifup/ifdown commands etc. knetworkmanager is a GUI for the NetworkManager service, so if you're using the ifup/ifdown method then there's no NetworkManager service to connect to and so it has no information about the current network connection status. So you get the red x.
Go to Yast -> Network Devices -> Network Card. For the Network Setup Method, choose User Controlled with NetworkManager, then Next/Finish etc.
Hope this helps!

Where do you get the error? In Yast? Do you get as far as the Network Card Configuration Overview screen? Are there any network devices listed there?

In Network Devices it list the correct hardware. Everything works ok except the icon has the x and it reads "no network device found".

Is NetworkManager running? Try:
Code:
ps -ef | grep -i networkmanager
or
Code:
/etc/init.d/network status
as root

I don't know what "x" has to do with "y" but I ran a repair and I had a bunch of corrupted files. I was told to run "fsck" manually during boot up. I was asked alot of questions to a yes or no to fix and when it was all said and done it works! Why, I have no idea. Thanks for all the replies.
