kmix says mixer cannot be found but works as root

OK Im not sure what is going on... I added my user to the group audio and it still doesn't work. Kmix keeps saying that a mixer cannot be found as a normal user. As root it doesnt say that but root does not work. The card is configured and everything and the test sound works in yast. Any ideas?

So, if you run alsamixer as root, will it work? What are file permissions on /dev/snd/* ?

I'm having the same problem. Tried running it as a root but nothing happened.
