Did you accidentally notice that in both cases problem was with vanilla 2.6.12.x not 2.6.11.x? How difficult is to grasp this?

In the other post I did explained that 2.6.11 (and SuSE inparticular) use cards as a modules, this is not the case for 2.6.12. And you have been insisting that default settings in 2.6.12 make NICs as modules. Which is obviously not true.
Here:
Quote:
user@linux:/usr/src/linux-2.6.12> cat .config | grep EHCI
and this
Quote:
Read my post, I quoted the default config of 2.6.12 for the ehci module.
first quote means that you have copied SuSE's config file to the 2.6.12. Second is a lie.

I said this before, there is nothing wrong with mistakes, however insisting with bad advises is wrong.
Basically your ill advises did not help first OP.

..so we have to think about what 'make config' does. Two people seem to do the same thing and get different results.
This was hilarious.

It seems there is no way to fight your ignorance and twisting of facts.

Why? Do you have some insight into the secret function of the cat command?
I am still waiting for apology. Read your own post again and see that it is stupid.

Why? Because default setting in 2.6.12 for EHCI is kernel build in not modules. Default setting in 2.6.12 for EHCI is not module.
I don't see any reason for apology.

OK, calm it down. The "cat ... grep" statement will not copy anything to anywhere, it simply prints on screen the EHCI parts of the .config file. It does nothing else.

Make xconfig/gconfig/kconfig do nothing except bring up the kernel config menu.

Are you both trying to answer both the questions and arguing about advice that is correct in one instance but not the other? Could this be the source of your disagreements?

If you wish to disagree with one another feel free to do so, but keep it all on topic, make sure that you answer the questions you are posting against and keep it civil.

Regardless, calm it down and keep it polite.
