Did you accidentally notice that in both cases problem was with vanilla 2.6.12.x not 2.6.11.x? How difficult is to grasp this?
In the other post I did explained that 2.6.11 (and SuSE inparticular) use cards as a modules, this is not the case for 2.6.12. And you have been insisting that default settings in 2.6.12 make NICs as modules. Which is obviously not true.

first quote means that you have copied SuSE's config file to the 2.6.12. Second is a lie.
I said this before, there is nothing wrong with mistakes, however insisting with bad advises is wrong.
Basically your ill advises did not help first OP.
