KDE3.4 upgrade

Hi (I'm running Suse9.1 KDE 3.2)
I've followed the instructions on the above sticky and at the Novell help site to upgrade my KDE from 3.2 to 3.4.
All went well, opened Yast, set install paths to the FTP sites recommended etc.
On Install/Remove Programs I selected packages and followed the instructions from the Novell site again.

However, on [Accept] I get a dozens of dependency warnings!
This scared the blue blazes out me and so I aborted the update.

Is this to be expected? Should I have pushed on, or should I have spent the next week downloading each lib/file etc highlighted in the Yast warning panel?

The thing is, Suse9.1 has been rock solid since I installed it and I've finally got the kids on there and they don't even notice that they're not on msoft xp anymore. This is a good thing. Point being, I don't want to mess this system up now, but I'd like to be on the latest kde.

(other apps I've installed include netbeans, jbuilder, tux paint, and several games).

thanks

K

My suggestion, if its working for you fine, don't try and 'improve it'. You will most certainly fuck up. Look at Mupheys Law "everything that can go wrong, will go wrong".
If you want KDE 3.4, try install SuSE 9.3, that's worked absolutely fine for me so far (used for about 2 months). Do it when the kids are away for a few days, so that you can install suse, then the games and try and iron out as many of the "bugs" that you can, to ensure a smooth transition for the fickle kids.

use packman as a source make sure to refresh the source then via yast do the upgrade ... mine went perfect except for gimp so I just choose not to upgrade gimp and all went well ...

ok the problem wasnt the update it was my system. i did a complete reinstall and was able to upgrade kde and gnome perfectly and everything runs so smooth now. the only problem ive had was that gaim 1.5.0 now has a bug in it where it will just kill its process on a left click! o well ill wait for the next update. :)
Thanks for the help!
