First of all, I just want to explain that most of the issues I have with my computer are caused by myself because I'm still a newbie in Linux, I'm very curious and I have no one around to explain how to do things on Linux

OK, here's my situation. When I first installed Suse Linux (10.1), I chose GNOME as my default Window Manager. About a month later I installed KDE which I like the best. Then I enabled XGL and found out that even though I had switch to KDE as my default Window Manager, somehow GNOME's Nautilus kinda took over KDE and I don't like it. I've googled XGL images and I've seen that people actually got it working on regular KDE which is all I wanted. After several attempts of getting rid of it, today I decided to remove GNOME completely from Yast2 and after restarting I noticed some funny behavior. First of all, there's a weird-looking sign in screen with a gray background and the Suse logo in a very low resolution (possibly 640x480) that says "SIMPLY CHANGE" and in the Title bar says "Welcome to linux-7d5d. It asks me to sign in manually every time I turn the computer on. There's also a Xconsole window on the left that says "NOVELL, SETTING U TAINT FLAG" which seems to load the ATI driver. KDE is still my WM and it seems to work fine, even XGL, except for one thing: there's no freaking KDE menu in the Task Bar!!! and the clock and the icons in the tray bar on the lower right corner are also gone!!!

Some of the icons were actually not showing the right picture, and for some reason Firefox was gone too even though I chose to keep it. Anyways, I was able to fix those issues and Firefox's back, but I haven't been able to get the menu back. I even used the installation DVD to update the settings with KDE, but it didn't do anything. I've also gone through all the items in Yast2 one by one, comparing the list with another computer I have that's using KDE as the default WM, but nothing seems to be missing. What can I do?? Please help me....

Hmmmm... What happens if you right-click the taskbar --> unlock panels --> configure panels ---> Menus ---> and check what's in there? Not sure, maybe if no options are checked off for display, the button disappears? Or is the button there, simply with no items in it?
Also, if you can locate 'xfce appfinder' on your system, as well as 'K menu Updater' some combination of these will help restore your menu & button.

Hints:

1 - In a console, type 'kmenuedit' to get the menu-building tool.
2 - K Menu is an applet. Try right-clicking the taskbar ---> Add Applet/Application to panel ---> "K Menu" And this should do it!

Thank you for your reply Niña Toronja . Well, I've actually tried all of the options when I right click on the menu, but there's no options to add or recover the K menu. The "K" is just not there anymore. I was able to add an applet which is called SUSE MENU, but is not the same. It lack some of the basic functions like Closing Session and Turning off the machine. By the way, since I don't have those options, the only way for me to turn off the computer is by pressing the power button every time, getting the "BROADCAST ALERT FOR HALT..." or whatever, and when that happens, there's an error message that shows for a brief moment that says that kpowersave is not running and then it just turns off (in a very short time) so I'm guessing the application are not properly closing when that happens, which might lead to some serious issues later.

I've tried kmenuedit as you suggest, but there are no options to get it back on the task bar......

.........nevermind, scratch all that........

I can't believe I hadn't noticed this. I tried the last suggestion you gave me, to Add Applet/Application to panel ---> "K Menu" and there it is!!!! I also got my clock back and the task bar back I feel kinda stupid for not realizing this myself before, but I want to thank you with all my heart for you advice. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
