KDE dosen't start for root login
Hi all,
I have just had a strange thing happen on my SuSE Linux 9.3 server. When I log into the console as root, instead of getting a KDE desktop, I get a text console window and a root prompt. If I do a startkde, I then get to the desktop. This does not seem to happen for other users - just root. It worked OK until a couple of days ago. I have also noticed that if I do a VNC connection, it is unsuably painfully slow, drawing a block of the desktop at a time every few seconds. I'm not sure whether the two issues are connected or not, just odd that both occurred at the same time so I think its more than co-incidence. I'm not sure what log or config info to provide at this time, but if neccessary just ask and I will post the relevant info. |
Hmm, I wonder if its because you set the root account not able to log in on KDE. As far as a slow vnc connection, perhaps its a firewall issue? Or related to the disabling above?

Well I certainly didn't do this puposefully.
KDMRC has AllowRootLogin = true set. Where else might this be disabled? |
I may have answered my own question:
http://wiki.suselinuxsupport.de/wikk...wToLoginasroot The above is for the benefit of anyone else who has encountered this issue. |
