KDE 3.5 RC1 anyone?

Has anyone tried the new KDE 3.5 RC1?

YaST displays a lot of KDE updates to version 3.5.0-xx. Now, I take it this would be the 3.5 RC1 released on the 11th this month, according to kde.org. But is it safe to update yet? Or should I wait for the final version?

I went ahead and did it dispite the many wrongly announced yast warnings. i.e. so-n-so requires lib > than ...., all of which WERE greater than.... 3.5 is nice, a lot of new icons, useabilities, no real probs. that i have noticed.

my only complaint i still with SuSE integration with things like usb control. usb devices are detected and useable but not controlable from kde i.e. unmount safely. but thats another story.
kde 3.5 rc1 try it you'll like it.

I had RC1 some days ago when I upgraded with synaptic. The next day I tried to apt-get -s upgrade and it showed the new KDE 3.5.0 level"a". So I upgraded and so far it works without any problem.

I did RC1 once the KDE comprehensive site was avaliable in YAST (I am trying to test YAST out for installs), and it installed flawlessly, and runs flawlessly (although I still every once in a while get a kicker crash when shutting down due to SuperKaramba).

So right now I am running 3.5.0 level "a".

i actualy got a few problems not sure if directly through upgrade or the continuos dropping of the connection to the www.suse.com site's yast source but my kopete crashes on run at anypoint.
kporvray modeler cannot save ANYTHING to the harddrive not good to find out after you needed to save an important piece of work.
as for superkaramba crashes i have yet to experience any
if you have some free time someone check those programs and see if it is just a release thing or not

Yes, the YaST source to SuSE does sometimes halt or become stuck, in that case just kill the YaST processes and start where you left off (it happened to me twice).

As for why kicker crashes with Super Karamba, it happened with KDE 3.2.x and 3.3.x.

Not a big deal, just an annoyance.

Have they fixed anything with the composite manager crashes ? since just yesterday i tried to enable it, added the corresponding lines in section "extensions" and allowglxwithcomposite to allow it. The effect was beautiful but slow, so i put an accel command ( if orgot which and kde crashed after a few seconds )..

The final version is out!

The KDE Project is happy to announce a new major release of the award-winning K Desktop Environment. Many features have been added or refined, making KDE 3.5 the most complete, stable and integrated free desktop environment available. For a quick look at some of the new features see the visual guide to KDE 3.5. Packages are available now for ArchLinux, Kubuntu, Slackware and SuSE or try Konstruct to build it yourself.

Notable changes include:

* Konqueror is the second major web browser to pass the Acid2 CSS test, ahead of Firefox and Internet Explorer
* Konqueror can also free webpages from adverts with its new ad-block feature
* SuperKaramba is included in KDE, providing well-integrated and easy-to-install widgets for the user's desktop
* Kopete has support for MSN and Yahoo! webcams
* The edutainment module has three new applications (KGeography, Kanagram and blinKen), and has seen huge improvements in Kalzium

Stephan Kulow, KDE Release Coordinator, said: "The improvements made in the past year show how mature the KDE Project is. KDE is the most powerful desktop environment and development platform in the market. With huge changes expected in KDE 4, our next release, KDE 3.5 should provide users with the perfect productivity platform for the next couple of years."

ANd thats not all, the new firefox 1.5 will be released also today.

I know, I saw that on slashdot.

My question about the SuperKaramba is, what if you already have it?

Do you need to un-install it? AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN A COUPLE OF YEARS BEFORE KDE4 (a.k.a. Plasma)

If you already have superkaramba, it may be best to uninstall it to prevent any package conflicts or other problems. Superkaramba has never really worked fine for me on Suse, so I am not sure what its going to be like, now that its built into KDE.

Yeah, I was lazy and did not want to setup new Installation sources (stupid me).

I will just bite the bullet, not much to do here at work anyways.. might as watch grass grow, or paint dry.

Could someone please give a link to a mirror which can be added to Yast.
I tried with links from kde and tried to add installation source with yast and got:

error instsrc:e_no_instsrc_on_media

also while on the subject, these are the servers I use with yast:

http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/10.0
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/di...-source-java//
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/suse/i386/1...0.0-GM-Extra//
ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/opensuse/di.../inst-source//

and YOU updates from:

http://ftp.uni-kl.de/pub/linux/suse/

Are there any others that I could add to get the largest choice of updares available?

cheers.
