Place the cd in your drive and restart your machine, be sure you have boot to cd as your first boot option.
Your machine will boot the first cd, let it load.

Choose install.

I like to have all my partitioning done when installing windows (that is if you are dual booting), if you do not use the partitioning tool that comes with SuSE. Partitioning is key to a sucessfull dual boot install, you will need a partition for nix (5 gigs is said to be enough but I like 10 to 12 gigs myself leaves room for more software and documents and data) this partition needs to be mounted as / which is to say root. Next ceate a swap partition of 1 to 2 gigs for swap. If you are not dual booting then simply let SuSE partition the drive for you say into a swap partition and the rest of the drive as / ,if you like.

Now pick and choose your software and continue on with the install, good luck.

From your post, and if I understand your question correctly, you have not selected a root partition, or not selected it to be formated and mounted as root. Go into the expert mode during the install and select partitioning and click where you wish to install to and select edit, then check the mount box for format and then make the mount point to be /. Which is the root mount point. So try again with this approach and see if it helps.

Well it sounds like the cds have been corrupted.
Suse can boot also with the cd2, so try that one.

One option would be to configure correct harddrive, but im quite sure the problem isn't there.
linux root=/dev/hda1 or hdb1 or hdc1 or just hda

Disabling acpi could also help.acpi=off
