My understanding is that SLES 9 is designed for use on a server but you can still use it on an individual computer, although it is a little bit of overkill. Is that correct?

I have a pretty basic toshiba laptop that works fine with mandrake10 but I'd like to try Suse as I'm not really happy with mandrake. Does installing SLES 9 make sense, or would I be much better off with 9.1/2 pro, or even personal and then updating? I guess I'm just wondering how much overkill SLES 9 would be if it would work.

Thanks

It makes more sense now that RossB has explained it...the 9.2 ISOs aren't available because it hasn't actually been released yet. I didn't notice that at that www.linuxcd.org that they were just taking preorders. I'll certainly look forward to this...SuSE 9.0 Pro has been my favorite distro, and I've tried quite a few of them.

I downloaded the SuSE 9.1 personal ISO when it was first made available by Novell. I immediately used YAST to get all the latest packages and essentially upgraded it to PRO.

It is completely free, and it works just fine (i.e. it's not a trial version).

At the same time, I think it's worth paying for if you need the manuals, support, and all the packages on CDs. I would definitely recommend it to both the novice (through purchase) and the geek (through download).
