internet not working in suse 10.1 after update

Hello all

I have suse 10.1 installed. I never did any online update before today because I knew it was broken. I realised today though that the fix for yast was released a couple of days ago.

So I used yast to install the libzypp update to fix yast.
I then used yast to install 2 packages:

bugfix for dhcdbd (DHCLIENT_HOSTNAME_OPTION)
bugfix for dhcp (DHCLIENT_HOSTNAME_OPTION)

After restarting the laptop, suse 10.1 simply cannot see the network/internet. The internet has stopped working. This is a dire situation for me so I would really appreciate any help you guys can give me. Im not great with linux so if you want to tell me any diagnostic commands to put in I will and then Ill post the output here.

Thanks

Try google and the 5000 other people who've already asked this and been answered.

"The internet has stopped working."

great, you're the one who broke the internet :)

did you reboot between the libzypp update and the other updates. the chatter on the mailing lists seem to indicate that a reboot is needed. other than that, uninstall the nic with yast then reinstall.

The common thread is dhcp. Have you gone back and done all your net settings over as if you were doing a first-time setup? FWIW, I'm writing on a box with a fresh 10.0 install and all updates to date and... well, if you can read this, something's working. I understand you're running 10.1 but I'm tempted to say the updates themselves aren't the problem ; that something ugly happened with the settings when the updates went in. And that you can fix. :D

Uh, and the Google thing? Don't rule that out altogether. Ya never know, it might just get you to the answer. :)
