Internet addresses resolving VERY slowly

I installed Suse 10, and it takes 15 to 20 seconds for URL's to resolve in any browser that I use.

I had this problem when I installed Suse months ago, and I remember that it was easily fixed by changing one setting.

Could someone please help me out?

Thanks!

Edit 1:
Hmm, was it IPV6 or something like that? I am checking now.

you want to get better DNS servers. DNS is what resolves host names into ip addresses.

How do I do this? Maybe I should tell you about my setup. I have a router that my computers connect to. The router is setup with a static IP address from my ISP.

The other system (Windows XP) on this router is very fast. Also, this machine is very fast when it is running Windows 2k.

Slow web address resolution is most likely a problem with your DNS servers. The DNS server addresses you normally get from your ISP dynamically (or router). My dad's ISP is weird because on his Suse, the DNS address that it gets dynamically makes his internet not work. I just went to Control Center, Yast Modules, Network Services, DNS and Hostname, and manually fixed the name server 1 and name server 2. You technically only need 1 name server (DNS server), but if that one goes down, so do you. If you have to update this every boot up, I'd suggest unchecking the Update via DHCP option. This will make your name server static, but keep in mind your DNS server (name server) should be different if you move your computer around (i.e. take it to school, take it to work, use at starbucks). DNS servers are meant to be fast and if you dont use the one given on the network you're using, it'll slow you down.

Hope this helps
