internal modem configuration

I am new to linux. Recently i installed suse 10.1. I have an internal modem installed in my system which is working very fine in windows. Suse has recognised this as Smart link PCI 56k modem. I don't know how to configure it and make dialup connection. can anybody explain the step by step procedure of configuring the modem and make the dial up connection. My system configuration is
AMD 1800+ /256 mb /40GB

First, you need to be sure that the right driver is loaded.
Go to YAST>hardware>hardware-information. There you can find a listing of every detected device with properties and with information about the loaded driver (I am using opensuse 10.1).
I don't know it for sure, but I think that the drivers for softmodems are not included in the standard opensuse 10.1. I suppose you need SLED 10.0 or maybe Suse 10.1 .
Here you can find drivers:
http://www.linuxant.com/company/
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ .
For the configuration of the network via modem, I am missing experience.

Hope this helps,
Thomas
