Installing yum on SuSE

I've installed SuSE 10 over the weekend. I tried to install yum for updating packages but I got this message

linux:/usr/src/packages/RPMS # chmod 755 yum-2.2.2-1.src.rpm
linux:/usr/src/packages/RPMS # rpm -ivh yum-2.2.2-1.src.rpm
warning: yum-2.2.2-1.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 69886cc7
1:yum warning: user skvidal does not exist - using root
warning: group skvidal does not exist - using root
warning: user skvidal does not exist - using root)
warning: group skvidal does not exist - using root
########################################### [100%]
linux:/usr/src/packages/RPMS # yum
bash: yum: command not found

The rpm file has all the permissions and the right owner.

May you please help me diagnose the issue. I would like to use yum for updating packages.

Thanks,
Kris

You have a source RPM. You can rebuild it and install it with something like "rpmbuild --rebuild ...". Also, I'm sure that someone has a compiled binary RPM for Yum on SUSE; and SUSE already has a nice package management tool called Yast.

If using Suse, you are better off using the package manager thats part of YAST. YUM is supported but not very well, there is a Suse yum rpm somewhere (I am sure you can install it via yast), but you won't find many Suse yum repos.
