Installing servers in YAST
I've read the two helpful stickies on how to add webaddresses to YAST.
I've added one such location: server name: ftp.gwdg.de directory on server: pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0/ have tried it with yes AND no refresh , both occasionals result in no new paskages being displayed.... i tried looking for basic packages like mplayer..... but it returns no results..... am i using an out dated link or even worse using YAST incorrectly? i tried the links using ftp.suse.com etc.....as in the stickies in the suse forum but the program says it cant find the link..... SUSE 10 has impressed me in all other areas apart from this when compared to mandriva 2005LE whos urpmi command lines worked a charm and never gave me any bother.... any ideas? |
Hello!
Have you tried other servers from the dropdownlist in yast/online-update? Greetings |
Whether this will be a massive use or not, I dunno. But I learned how to do it properly from this Jem Report: http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/178/42/
I had tried a few times to add a server, and failed, but when I did it exactly like in the article, I successfully added 6 servers. The cheat is adding an installation source, in my case. |
Hmmm, i've added these sources with no problems but wheni try searching for the simples programs eg. divx or mplayer, i doesnt find any matches. Also, most of the packages it finds via net are older than the cd version even though i added the addresses with 10.0 paths.....
have enabled refreshing paths too...... takes bloody ages but still no good list...... will it take this long every time the package installer loads? something fishy is going on :S |
I've fixed it, i browsed around the the websites forums and theres a common problem where you have to add some http sites under FTP instead. I did so for the pacman site and hey presto , it works.... now downloading packages galore.....
Hope this helps anyone else who may have had the same frustrating problem! Cheers |
I am using apt4suse and synaptic for updates/upgrades of my SUSE 10.0 system and have no problems at all. Just follow the instructions in http://www.susewiki.org/index.php?ti...tall-apt4suse, apt-get install synaptic to install it and that is all. See also http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/
