Installing preformatted HDD

Hi

I am trying to install a old pre-formatted (ext2) HD on a Opensuse 10.3 machine, after many attempts I know that I need to add the drive to the fstab before installing it, I have tried /dev/sdb1 with no success and see that in the fstab the current HD is not referred to as /dev/sda.

/dev/sdb1 /work ext2 defaults 1 1

Does anyone have an idea as to what to refer my HD as or a sample line from their fstab that might work, or some step by step instructions.

fdisk -l will list the drives and their partitions. Note that you've kinda jumped from drives to filesystems and missed out partitions in the middle there...

Thanks Chris - problem is that the machine freezes at the grub stage so I cannot boot up to run fdisk.
