Smile installing new software


hi there
one day into using suse 9.1 personal and i need help
i have downloaded lots of software both rpm's and tarballs and i would like to install but i have no idea how to install it. what commands to type and where?

i use internet cafes for internet access and therefore can't download from the net with yast via ftp.

can anyone help a really eager to learn nooooobeeeeeeee?

You can install most .rpms through YaST. Easiest way I have found is to right click --> actions, install with YaST. Type root password and be done with it. Alternately, try searching Here

if you are trying to install from source code (tar and bz2 -balls) you are going to run into a little bit of trouble, SuSE Personal editions do not come with 'Make' 'gcc' 'automake' and I can't remember if they have 'glibc' if you want to install from sourcecode these are all things that you must have. I believe you can use YaST to install the necessary RPMS to compile software from source.
