installed app won't activate

Just installed leap 15.1 and deleted libreoffice at install as my main book with many charts done using openoffice and best to keep the same.
Downloaded OO 4.1.7 and installed and yast listing confirms it to be installed, but it doesn't list on Office options and neither so when open my book file and invoke it.
Any way command line might fix it?

Make a symlink to ooffice (or is it soffice?) in /usr/bin and also the other openoffice units you want access to
Code:
ln -s /path/to/openoffice/program/soffice /usr/bin/soffice
Obviously change the filename depending which link you're creating.
I don't use openoffice so I'm not sure of the actual filename but I'm sure you can correct that. You can then start the programs fom the terminal with eg soffice(ooffice?) or add them to your gui menu.

You never answered or followed up with anything in your last post:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...os-4175676431/

And you are again omitting most details here that would let anyone help you. You installed 15.1 (latest is 15.2, so why install an old version?), then removed Libreoffice for what reason?? Openoffice is not supported, AT ALL, on openSUSE for a long time now; last support was 11.1. And what desktop environment are you using??

You can list the contents of the package with "rpm -ql <package name>", but if you installed through some other method, that won't work. If you did and get a file listing, look for the executable there. Typing in "soffice" may work. Since it's obviously not a SuSE package, you may have to create the icons/shortcuts yourself.

Smile openoffice installed

Thank you to all for your time and efforts. It turns out that the yast listing of the items being installed was premature and so all terminal actions had no effect; however was able to get it functioning by going around the system:
1. after clicking on the RPMS item, individually install all about 40 apps separately, and as there may be a required sequence with some OSes ignore any failed ones and go on to next and then repeat the skipped ones later;
2. if at any point get a message that the package isn't legitimate, just press 'ignore';
3. likewise ignore a message at install of suse-menus that shouldn't install and select the option to break some of its links;
4. after successful install, ignore future messages from yast that need to fix that suse-menus part -- you don't and such action would harm your install.

No idea why suse leap makes install off OO so hard, though similar problems with debian and uberstudent [very easy with slack, SL, and bugtraq].

Because it's not a SuSE standard package, and you still don't address the question of WHY Libreoffice isn't suitable. Opening an OO document in Libreoffice won't lose any data, and you'll be in a standard, supported environment.

You went out of your way to install things that weren't designed for your system; don't be surprised when things don't work well or are difficult to use.

fact clarification

I appreciate that not everyone has used both LO & OO at same time, so may not be familiar with fact that even when LO first came out and there was no obvious difference between them there were still instances where some required actions on an OO project were not satisfied by LO [I took careful not of these occurrences], and a few years ago there was a more decided split between the two, and I have no need for surprises when working on my material.
If anyone got the impression that my work around might cause future problems rest assured that I have worked this procedure for many years without incident [the system notices are simply concerning Leap certifications and nothing operational is involved]; the only thing new is the persistent notice about 'suse-menues' which seems strange and merely adds annoyance whenever using Yast -- trust it not a deliberate act of hostility to OO users as always believed linux was above such arbitrary restrictions on its followers.
