installation problem with SUSE 9.1 Personal

I am new to linux but want to learn about it. I wiped my old system clean with no disk partitions and am installing from CD. I have tried every bios setting that could make a difference including different ram and regardless of what I have changed I can not get past a certain point when linux is preparing to install. The end of the list of things on the screen before it stops is...

md: Autodetecting RAID arrays.
md: autorun ...
md: ... autorun DONE.
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0
VFS: Mounted root (minix filesystem).
Moving into tmpfs... done.
ramdisk /dev/ram0 freed
created /dev tree (14719 inodes)
>>> SUSE Linux installation program v1.6.19 (c) 1996-2004 SUSE LINUX AG <<<

I tried everything but can not get past that point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What hardware do you have in your machine? And have you tried selecting "Installation - Safe Settings" from the boot menu when loading the installer? EIther that, or choose the text mode installer and see if either of ose gets you any further into the installer.

turns out my drive was crashing and because I had win98 on it before I tried to install Linux, there were no errors or problems detected because win98 is stupid.
