install problem

I have installed suse 9.1 and received errors stating that certain files were not "on the medium". So, I did an upgrade when I rebooted. I then had errors with different files not being found. Right know Most of my missing files are of Yast.

What is the best way to approach this? When reading some threads, some people talked about doing an FTP install. Will this work better? Can I do and upgrade that way? I do have command line right now. Can't get KDE running. (That was another area that had a file problem.)

I am running a PII box with 192 RAM & 10g HDD with cable internet. I am a newbie to Linux so I don't know the comand line yet. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I had an almost identical problem, which is posted elsewhere here.

The bottom line is, the CD Drive in my machine, either did not like the media I was using, or was about to fail. I discovered this, by trying the install on another machine, and it went without problems right up to the point where it would have installed if I had let it. Instead, I aborted the installation, as I did not want it on that machine. A replacement CD Drive fixed the issue.

If you have access to another machine, try it. You can allow the installer to progress right up to where you tell it to carry out the installation. At that point abort, and no changes will be made to that machine.

Thanks for the info. I tried to do a search using my windows box and it wouldn't do it for some reason. I am at work now and will look for your post. I will also try what you said. Thanks again!

Sorry I can't be much more help, as I'm a newbie myself.
