Install path of Firefox 2 in SuSE 10.2 - needed for flash installation
Hi,
I've been trying to upgrade flashplayer for Firefox for a while, and have had little success. At first I tried running the installer as a normal user, which partially worked: flash 9.0 appeared in Firefox's about:plugins summary, but whenever I visited a page that required flash, Firefox always used the version that came pre-installed with SuSE 10.2 (7.something). I'm now trying to install flash as root, and have discovered that doing so gives me a different set of setup messages altogether: I'm now being asked for the "installation path" for Firefox. I've looked through most of /usr, however, and haven't been able to find it. Does anyone have any idea what this path is, or any other suggestions as to what I might do to get Firefox to recognize the newer version of flash? Thanks. |
You need to uninstall the flash shipped by SUSE and then copy libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/browser-plugins.

Okay, I can do all that... but I don't seem to currently have a /usr/lib/browser-plugins directory. Any thoughts?

You can still uninstall SUSEs flash and install flash 9 as a normal user.

Thanks! One last question, though: is there some way to make the installation global? (Konqueror still reports that flash 7.x is installed, even though it isn't, and I got a very nondescript dependency error when I uninstalled flash 7.x)
Thanks again. |
You could try creating /usr/lib/browser-plugins or /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and copying your plugin files there.

If you go into konqeror and select the settings, go to the bottom and there is an option to update the plug-in info. If you click that it should then show the updated version.
