Did you try the instructions/ways posted on the openSUSE site?? A quick search leads to much:

http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...nsuse-usb.html

You can either use it as a Live USB distro, or install from USB. You can also just burn the image to DVD, and use a USB connected DVD drive to boot from. Works just fine.

As TBOne suggests one can make a usb from the offical site web pages.

Other ideas include. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-sus...drive-install/

And the iso for most of them ought to be hybrid. That means you can take, for example, the netinstall and just use dd to copy it to a usb. Be careful with dd.

Hopefully you don't have an HP Mini. The Bios on several of those won't correctly read any USB key I make for any distro. Works on every other laptop I try it in, but not on the Mini. I've actually had to hook up a USB cd-rom to install on it.

also a word of warning with OpenSUSE
it is a resource HOG
they through in EVERYTHING including " the kitchen sink"

you would be better off NOT installing
Gnome3
or
KDE4

but using a lightweight DE for a low resource " netbook"
XFCE or LXDE or "icewm-lite"
