Install Maple 9.5 under SUSE 10.0?
 

Hi all, I don't yet have SUSE 10.0 but after reading Mick Bauer's article in April 2006 Linux Journal and the impressive reviews I found at Distrowatch, I am thinking of installing this in a spare partition (I can do that safely using the SUSE installer, can't I?) on my machine B.

One of my most used apps on my machine A (running Mandrake 10.0) is Maple 9.5. On machine B I have been using MEPIS 3.3-1, and was disappointed to find that apparently Maple is incompatible with Debian derived distros. My question: has anyone had any luck installing Maple 9.5 from the CD under SUSE 10.0?

Seems like it is supported from SuSE 9.1, 9.2... Makes me think it is probably supported under SuSE 10...

Excellent! One thing: I have no experience installing the make/install way. To install Maple 9.5 under Mandrake I used the installation script on the Maple disk (or whatever it was; I forget) and fortunately for me this worked like a charm. Do you think it might be that easy under SUSE? That would be FABULOUS!!!

Never used Maple, but Suse is an RPM based distro. If you can find Maple in an RPM package then it'll be super easy for you to install. RPM package is also what's used in RedHat, so sometimes those might work on Suse, but it depends.
RPM is just as popular as DEBs, just different way of installing things and managing packages.
