init daemon cannot connect to x-server

Hello-

I have a python-based daemon process started via an init.d script at boot. It responds properly when runnning as it provides a socket for a telnet connection. It cannot however, start another process that needs to connect to the x-server. The error is 'connection refused'. The deamon is started with startproc as a new process and as user root.

If I log in as root and perform an xhost to allow root access to the x-server, the daemon spawns x-server related processes just fine. Typing this each time isn't acceptable, tho.

Is there a better way than adding "xhost +local:root" to root's login script?

Might I have to add an entry to the .Xauthority file in some way? Thoughts appreciated.
