inetd vs xinetd?

what is the difference between inetd and xinetd? i want to specify what services are running, for exaple i want to run SWAT, and i usually just uncomment a file from the inetd.conf file, but how do i do this with xinetd? is xinetd the same as inetd? can someone give me an explination? thanks in advance

FYI: you can have a look at the following link

Just go into the /etc/xinetd.d/ folder and vi the file for swat and change enable = no to yes. same with all the other things you need to activate.
the change is basically from a "flat file" where you uncomment the line you need, to a file for each service which is found under /etc/xinetd.d/
Hope that answers your Q
