.ICEauthority permissions problem

Hi all,
Everytime I attempt to login to gnome, the screen goes black for a a few seconds then I am returned to the login manager. I tried switching from KDM to GDM and the problem still exists. I attempted to login to KDE and I got an error saying that the .ICEauthority file was at fault. So I logged on as root and deleted the .ICEauthority and other .ICE* files from my home folder and tried to login again and I logged in no problem. But later on I logged out and the problem returned. So I did a little investigating and found that the .ICEauthority and other .ICE* files in my home directory were owned by root so they couldnt be accessed by the user. So I changed the permissions this time and I logged in successfully. Then the next time I logged out the problem was back again and the owner was changed back to root. I am running OpenSuse 10.1. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced,
Paul

Log in as root and delete the .ICE files in the users profile. Then log back in.. see if they recreate with the correct permissions. .

And when you say you change the permissions how are you doing it?

ok figured it out (sorta). When I delete them and login they recreate with the correct permissions... until I run a program as root. As soon as I do that the owner of the .ICEauthority becomes root. I always run certain programs as root so how can I get rid of this little problem?

Eclipse agent,
I change the owner from nautilus or konqueror.

Thanks,
Paul
